Buckner Rock Picking Camp

This summer we had a very big project and that was to put part of our yard in. We told the kids that they were going to have a fabulous vacation at the Buckner Rock Picking Camp.

Every weekend and every spare time we had during the week we worked very hard. The kids were able to pick a lot of rocks, although slow they were very productive. We finally decided that the rocks were reproducing themselves and contracted someone with a rock hound to finish the job. We would work outside until we could no longer see. I think the kids appreciate the yard a bit more now that they have worked so hard to have it. I am thankful for the opportunity that we had to teach them the value of work and serving together as a family. Our grass is slowly coming in now and we are throughly enjoying our backyard.

We had a very interesting experience while working on our yard. A lot of the neighboorhood kids would come and ask if they could play when it was clearly time for them to help us. One of those times Tyler's friend, who had just moved in down the street, came riding his bike, he stopped for a little while watching us work. He put his bike down and just came and started helping. At first it was clear that his intentions were that he wanted to play with Tyler, but he saw the need we had to have the kids with us and he just started working. It showed me just how he values service. What a great quality to have at such young age.
